As I hinted last Friday, we did pick up something rather fab from the thrifts. It was this full length mid mod mirror!
I couldn't find a good way to photograph it in one frame or without showing myself in it - so please find included the six and half months pregnant shape of me too...
But now, let's focus more on the shape of the mirror itself.
I've already posted about a similar mirror find a little while ago - that mirror was a shorter version of this particular style, and it was in true vintage condition (ie. with nicks and flea bites around the sides) - neither of which made me (or you) love it less.
This guy however, is in such impeccable condition that we had to look twice for signs of age to make us believe that it is das echt article - especially that it had a cheap pricetag on it too. Well, it is the real deal and it does have some very minor signs of having been in someone's care and possession before, like some rubbing on the varnish of the teak from all the years of polishing... It's from around the 60s or so - it has the makers' label on the back stating its original price in Finnish marks. Oh and would you look at how nicely they finished even the MDF backing board with those shaped corners. It's all rather very yummy.

I was joking on the way home from the junk store while my boyfriend was carrying the mirror, that probably we didn't need a longer mirror as much as maybe a wider one. Ha-haaa :) To be honest, as long as my pregnancy is going well and my baby is doing fine I don't mind getting a bit wider for now. Although I did start looking out for a nice vintage bathroom scale too...
Love the mirror - and love your pregnancy shape. My bump is a bit further along, but we didn't get a wider mirror yet ;)
ReplyDeletehi Caddi! what fantastic news that you are expecting too! hope it's all going smoothly and that you are enjoying your special summer. xx
DeleteThe mirror looks great, and so do you! Thank you for joining the History & Home link party. -Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
ReplyDeleteLovely mirror, lovely bump too! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous little bump and the mirror is a great find .. Bee xx
ReplyDeleteit was quite a cute one then - gosh it grows so fast and i think i might balloon to a huge size...! i find this month to be such a hungry one! :)
Deletehey aniko! you look lovely dear!
ReplyDeletewhat a great mirror-find too!
thank you :) xx
Deletelovely bump and mirror, I'm distracted by your door frame, where's the door? I can't figure it out!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, the doorframe. thing is it seems to be a habit of the finns to take the doors down in the flat. we have doors only on the bathroom and the bedroom - while the kitchen and the living room (the room behind me in the picture) has the doors stashed away in storage. I guess it's one way to convert to open plan living :) so the vision you can't work out is that it's just a door frame with the screws screwed back in place at the hinges. we are planning to re-install the doors before baby comes. i like your eye for detail by the way! xx
DeleteAmazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to find that out in the wild!
ReplyDeletewe were equally surprised too!
Deletelove that rug! :)
ReplyDeletehi Masha! thanks - it's a swedish woollen runner, more meant to be on the wall as a wallhanging, but i like it as a rug :) xx
